The global search is on for Lilla Rogers to find the next new hot talent. Can you imagine the number of entries there will be? I thought it would be a fun, challenging thing to do. Art for licensing is a totally different animal, way different than the paintings I create, or even the cards I design. It reminds me so much of the fashion biz, where trends rule, and predicting the next big wave can be as daunting as which stocks to invest in. The assignment to create a cover for a journal with a playground theme, with all the job specs were sent by email to all who have joined onto the contest. The inside image of my art is the actual design for the journal cover. They were to be placed on a 8x10 background with our names. This is the first design phase of the search. Fifty artists will be chosen for the next assignment. Eventually it will be down to the chosen one who will have a two year art licensing contract with Lilla Rogers. I wish all who entered the best of luck! Click on the image to see the Facebook page for the global search updates.

Sometimes a painting sits on my easel longer than I would like. Many other art projects come up that pull me away from my focus to finish. But there is an upside to it. I find that it allows me the chance to visualize the painting finished and helps me to formulate where the painting is headed. I really can't wait for this one to be completed, and it already has been sold! Here is what the full image looks like. I'm working on bringing back the silver that I painted with metallic ink in the clouds back into the jpeg. I caught it with my cell phone, but I'm hoping to capture it if the art is photographed rather than scanned. Also bringing up the purple brought purple into the clouds when I color adjusted. I will play in PhotoShop today to mask the areas for color adjustments that match more closely to the art. Copyright © Laura J. Holman 2013. All Rights Reserved. Recently I experienced a situation that caused me deep heartache. I felt like the crying wouldn't stop, but thankfully it did, and I moved onto the next phase of acceptance. This piece was inspired by how I felt, and yet as hurt as I was emotionally, I couldn't quite catch the darkness in this piece. I think my eternal optimism shines through no matter how grey the clouds. This is just a part of the art. It was done on Ampersand's Aquabord in mixed media. 9" x 12" Besides my fine art, I really love designing cards. It keeps my graphic design and photoshop skills sharpened. All of my art is hand drawn. I don't personally care for digital art, but I love what I can do with my hand drawn art in Photoshop. Repeat patterns, playing with type faces, cleaning up my art, correcting colors.... these are some of the things that make creating traditional art so much easier now than how things were done years ago. This is one of my best selling cards for Mother's Day. Available on my Card Gnome store complete with a message as sweet as the sugar in this teacup. Whimsical Mother's Day Flowers Just after I uploaded this card to my Card Gnome store, I noticed a smiling face with the little bud as the nose. Completely customizable for your own message with a lighter version of the floral design on the inside of the card. Click on the image to visit this card on my Card Gnome store. See you there! Mother's Day Teapot on Zazzle I love making products for my POD store on Zazzle. They have a lot of new, wonderful products to create on. The trick is to make sure your design works on the product. Take the time to design it, just don't throw it on haphazardly. There are a lot of things to consider... are you within the safety margins for your image and type? Does your image fit the product? Is your choice of font readable? Use your image on only those products that work for your image. In fact, you can download templates and design to them. Make products that can be customized with a name and more, and use proper key words so that people can find you. Nothing is more annoying than spamming keywords for your products. Keep them relevant to the category that best fits your image, in fact the best thing to do is design to a category to be relevant than trying to fit in somewhere.
