My "I Love Short Bios" Bio
I'm still a New Yorker at heart even though by now I would be considered a native Californian. I thrive on city life with all the cultural stimulation it offers in exploring my artistic concepts. My visual memory is strong, and my work is created free hand with minimal use of reference material. I love to create with different mediums because I feel it keeps my mind and style challenged. Even the surface I choose to create on will inspire work that wouldn't be the same on another surface. I see and feel deeply, never forgetting a voice or a face of a friend, relative, or even people I see if only for a brief moment in time. Inspiration is at every turn and in endless supply for me. My sketchbooks are filled with work begging to make the leap to canvas or any other archival surface where it will see the light of day.
I live in an ever changing creative environment filled with talented people in the arts and entertainment industry. Many of the songs my husband produces are inspirational as I paint. And least I not forget my precious Lab/Ibezan mix dog who also inspires me and has made appearances in some of my art. In this photo here with me, I'm sure she's wondering when I'll be finished. After all, it's time to eat!
Now the nuts and bolts- AAS degree ( Cum Laude ) from The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York majoring in Fashion Illustration. My first job upon graduating from FIT was a showroom fashion illustrator for Beged-Or leather jackets, then a fashion illustrator/ad designer for a small fashion business. Next, I was hired as an assistant art director at Foote, Cone, and Belding in NYC. I then moved to California where I was hired as an art director at various ad agencies before deciding to free lance. I am currently painting and designing for my online stores and a licensing company. Awards and recognitions: LuLu Award, MAME Award, and an honorable mention certificate from Art Direction magazine for an ad for the late designer Bijan.
