A friend of mine gave me a canvas with some old gray paint on it. It's perfect to experiment on. I wondered if I could draw on acrylic with charcoal, so I drew on the paint that already existed on the canvas, sprayed it with a fixative and was able to paint without the charcoal smudging. The charcoal drawn directly on the paint yielded a beautiful line quality. I then smudged pastel over the paint with a little extra charcoal smudging. Face drawn from visual memory.

I absolutely love the world of fashion and often wonder what direction my life would have taken if I never moved from NY to Los Angeles. Late last night I searched the net for some fashion illustrations and got so inspired that I whipped up this little sketch from my head with a Sharpie marker and pencils. I love the blurred photo on the left of the original drawing on the right. Not at all intentional. Just a rush to get off to bed after being up so late. Why does the most inspiration come in the wee morning hours? Promising myself a decent bedtime hour tonight.

Sometimes a painting sits on my easel longer than I would like. Many other art projects come up that pull me away from my focus to finish. But there is an upside to it. I find that it allows me the chance to visualize the painting finished and helps me to formulate where the painting is headed. I really can't wait for this one to be completed, and it already has been sold!

On my easel right now is my colorful acrylic version of Amphitrite. And amazingly, it has sold already. I will post more works in progress on this as I move along. Happy summer to everyone!

I love making products for my POD store on Zazzle. They have a lot of new, wonderful products to create on. The trick is to make sure your design works on the product. Take the time to design it, just don't throw it on haphazardly. There are a lot of things to consider... are you within the safety margins for your image and type? Does your image fit the product? Is your choice of font readable? Use your image on only those products that work for your image. In fact, you can download templates and design to them. Make products that can be customized with a name and more, and use proper key words so that people can find you. Nothing is more annoying than spamming keywords for your products. Keep them relevant to the category that best fits your image, in fact the best thing to do is design to a category to be relevant than trying to fit in somewhere.
